Poetry Corner

Putting up my works for the first time in quite a while... hope you enjoy it, if you give it a read.

16 years gone

The dirt road that muddied the tires of my first car
Has been paved so long the yellow has faded
once a lane almost too small to pass side by side
Has a shoulder generous on the curves
How long do horses live?
Have I driven past this one before?

The trailers have shifted through the years
Fresh paint, new fences, rotting cars taken away
But Dad's home
The family trailer of 60 years
Remains stalwart against time
Ignoring the plastic covering the rotting roof
The sunroom torn away a decade ago
falling in on itself after supporting the weight of us
Longer than it should

My Grannie's leash only extends to the kitchen
She is no longer strong enough to stand in
My Pawpaw's garden has become a field of weeds
The pet cemetery has doubled with animals
I have never pet
How long will their home stand without them
As the pillars to hold it up?

Grannie always said when they're gone
She will leave all four kids a match
So they can pick a corner
And let it all go
